 Abstract

The study investigated the relationship between Agricultural Science Teachers conscientiousness trait and  their teaching effectiveness. One research question was posed for study and one null hypothesis was tested at 0.05 level of  significance. The study adopted the correlation design. The sample of the study was 94 teachers from a sample of 8 Local Government Areas from three Educational Zones. Two instruments were used for data collection which were the Agricultural Science Teachers Conscientiousness Scale (ASTCS) and Agricultural Science Teachers Teaching Effectiveness Scale (ASTTES) which was self-developed by the teacher. The two instruments were face validated by three validates. The internal consistencies of the ASTCS and Agricultural ASTTES were 0.79 and 0.83 respectively which were determined using the cronbach alpha. The mean and standard deviations and Simple Linear Regression were used to analysed the data collected. Results revealed that there was a high positive correlation which was significant between the Agricultural Science Teacher’s Conscientiousness and their teaching effectiveness. Based on the findings, the study recommended that Government and school administrators should motivate the teachers to maintain high level of teaching effectiveness and conscientiousness. Also Personality assessments especially in the aspect of conscientiousness should be continued as one of the assessment tools in recruitment and selection of teachers.
