Abstract

The paper examined the analysis of tertiary education applications and admission in Nigeria from 2013 to 2015.  The population is made up of applicants who sought admissions into the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education in Nigeria in 2013, 2014 and 2015. Three research questions guided the study. Data on applications were collected from a secondary source, Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education in Nigeria for 2013, 2014 and 2015. Analysis was carried out to determine the accessibility and gaps in admission process in Nigeria. The findings revealed that there was low number of admitted candidates compared to the number applied candidates that applied. Also, more candidates applied for university education than other tertiary institutions. Recommendations were made that government should increase tertiary education admission especially Federal Universities, establishment of more tertiary institutions to absorb more candidates for tertiary education and improve upon the existing ones, distance learning on-line as alternative mode of universities education in Nigeria among others.
