INFLUENCE OF PARENT-TEACHERS’ COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS AND SECONDARY EDUCATIONAL REFORMS IN NORTH CENTRAL NIGERIA

Abstract

The study investigated the influence of Parent-Teachers’ Collaborative Efforts on the secondary educational Reform in North Central Nigeria. A descriptive survey design of correlational type was adopted for the study. The population for the study comprise of principals, vice principals, Parent-Teachers’ Association executives in the state. Stratified random sampling technique was adopted to select 3000 respondents out of 10755 representing 30%. Three research questions and three hypotheses were generated to guide the study. The research instruments used for the study was tagged “Parent-Teachers Collaborative Efforts for Secondary Education Reform Questionnaire (PTACEFOSERQ). Test- retest reliability method was used to determine reliability index of instrument, subject to Spearman Ranking Order Statistics at 0.05 significance level. The reliability index of .88 obtained showed that the instrument is reliable for use. The data collected were subjected to statistical package of social science. The research questions raised were answered using descriptive statistics mean score and Standard deviation. The decisions are taken at 2.5-0 as agreed and 0,2.5 while the hypotheses were tested using inferential statistics of Pearson Product Moment Correlation Statistics at .05 significance level. However, the result showed that the existence of the parent-teachers collaborative efforts serve as a complement efforts to the government in the areas of educational reforms. It was however recommended that the government and the school managers and stakeholders in secondary schools need to be encouraged to develop mind of having collaboration of in the initiation and implementation reforms in education especially in Nigeria.
