AVAILABILITY AND USAGE OF ICT IN NIGERIAN PRIMARY SCHOOLS FOR SUSTAINABLE NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT: A CASE STUDY OF KATSINA LGEA, KATSINA STATE

 Abstract

This paper is a survey on availability and usage of ICT in public primary schools in Katsina Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) for sustainable national development. The study has two objectives and two research questions. A survey design was employed in carrying out the study from the population of fifty one (51) public primary schools ICT Teachers in Katsina LGEA and a sample of 35 ICT Teachers was selected out of the population using simple random sampling. One instrument for ICT Teachers designed by the researchers was used in collecting the required data. Simple percentage was used in analyzing the data. The findings revealed that majority of the schools have no ICT Laboratories, no enough functional computers, and that in majority of the schools, ICT is among the subjects taught with period allocation on the time table. The study recommends that more ICT Laboratories should be provided by the government to each primary school in Katsina LGEA and be well equipped to contribute in the development of the educational sector and that enough ICT trained teachers should be recruited by the government to ensure the full utilization of the ICT Laboratories in the schools.
